The CR Z hybrid coupe is the first car to combine a hybrid system with a 6 speed manual gearbox. The result of putting together an efficient 1.5 liter petrol engine with Hondas unique IMA parallel hybrid system is the lowering of emissions of all exhaust gasses. At the same, the car still offers an entertaining and engaging driving experience. Continued after the jump!
The IMA parallel hybrid system is so flexible that it can be used with a manual gearbox. This allows drivers to use the broad spread of torque, while maintaining fuel economy of only 5.0 l/100km. The 3 Mode Drive System enhances the day to day drivability of the car.
This exclusive feature enables the driver to choose from three driving modes, which alter the responses of the throttle, steering, idle stop timing, climate control and the level of assistance provided by the IMA system. With this new facility, the driver is empowered to adapt the cars settings to enjoy their favorite road, maximize economy, or strike a balance between the two.
Hondas 3 Mode Drive System is different from Sport buttons that offer a sharper throttle response. The new system changes the behavior of the hybrid drivetrain and the power steering assistance as well as the throttle mapping between the three modes. [source:4wheelsnews.com]
